My husband and I met in 2007 and like any young couple we talked about the future; a dog, marriage and children. Fast forward 10 years and I had finally taken his last name. I was the one who wanted to wait to have children, James was ready but I wanted to have an established career to give my future children a stable life.

In 2018 while on our honeymoon, I told James I was ready. We were so excited to start trying, apparently thatโ€™s the fun part. But I had a strange feeling after a couple of months that this wasnโ€™t going to be an easy journey. However, in May 2019, we found out we were pregnant. I remember seeing the test and feeling a sense of relief. But this was short lived. A week after finding out, I miscarried. We were devastated. The months following, I was desperate for answers. I booked all the tests available on the NHS and James was very open to having a semen analysis. I was told I had polycystic ovaries and endometriosis and James had low sperm count and 0-1% motility.

We applied for IVF on the NHS but Covid hit and had to wait longer. However by 2022, we had completed our first egg collection and, lucky enough, had 8 embryos. Our first transfer was successful, however again, I miscarried in the first few weeks. We then went on to do another round which also resulted in miscarriage before we decided to test our embryos. All came back normal. We went on to do three more rounds: another miscarriage and two that were unsuccessful. We had run out of embryos and had decided that this was it. We started to prepare for a childless life.

But we didnโ€™t feel done. I knew it could work, somehow. We found a specialist clinic in London who tested my NK cells and found they were high. We proceeded to do another egg collection and got 4 PGT-A normal embryos. My immune protocol was long but I had a feeling this could work. In February 2025, we headed in for transfer number 6. Ten days later I saw a positive pregnancy test. The weeks that followed were full of anxiety but we kept getting good news and the pregnancy continued.

On 27th October 2025, we welcomed our baby girl Aubree into the world. I still canโ€™t believe that after 8 years of heartache I finally have the title mummy. Science is amazing and I will forever be grateful for the doctors who continue to make stories like ours possible.

What would you say to someone whoโ€™s going through what you went through?

Make sure you advocate for yourself. Ask questions, do research and do what you feels will be right for you.
